Message I have not used the single stage chrome, only the gloss black and semi gloss clear. But two things I had to note when clearing over the black was 1) the time between the color coat and the clear coat and 2) the temperature of the clear. I'll be honest and tell you I can't recall what was the time frame between coats, but I do know that the clear had to cure at a lower temperature (50-100 degrees F less).

I think one of two things happened with your wheels. Either the chemistry of the SSR chrome and the clear had something in common that caused a mixing of the two once heated to cure, or the clear was cured at the incorrect temperature.

Here is what I would do if you are still trying to determine if the wheels can be done in that combo of powders. Pull of a heat shield, or give them some other piece and have them shoot it. See if they can have good results, or see if they can recreate the bad coating. Or try a different powder. Eastwood does offer a lot of options, don't be afraid to pick up some of the smaller powder quantities and give it a try.

Good luck, keep us posted.
